FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Hannah Axelrad

After scouring the UCLA campus only to find different versions of university T-shirts, sneakers and fashionable teachers, I finally spotted an opportunity I couldn’t refuse. This Fashionista caught my eye pretty quickly with her ’90s grunge ensemble.  She’s wearing the classic 1460 Dr. Martens, paired with black opaque tights, a black jersey skater skirt and a sleeveless denim Peter Pan collar button-up topped off with round sunglasses and a deep red beanie. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of grunge, especially when it comes with an unexpected girly twist.

Name: Hannah Axelrad

Major: Lingustic Anthropology

Year: Freshman

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing and where is it from?

Hannah Axelrad: I got my Dr. Martens from the brand’s store, my tights are probably from Target, my skirt my mom probably got from a Target or Kohl’s, my shirt I bought from American Apparel, I stole this beanie from my friend and the sunglasses I’ve just had around.

CF: How would you describe your style?

HA: I just like to wear whatever is comfortable and easy; I really like denim and black.

CF: What would you say is your favorite piece in your closet?

HA: I like beanies. They’re good for bad hair days and just for any day, any color.

CF: Where do you usually shop?

HA: If I get a large sum of money and I’m willing to treat myself, then I’ll just buy a nice item from like American Apparel, American Vintage; but generally I like to go to thrift shops.

How To: If you’re going for a simple, laid-back, grungy look like this Fashionista’s, I’d suggest pairing black jeans with a loose tank, an open denim long sleeve button-up, of course a pair of classic black Dr. Martens and finish it off with a red beanie and some cool vintage sunnies.
